Energy Healing for Families: Finding ‘Enoughness’ in Wish Dragon
This March Break, the "breakthrough" didn't happen in a deep meditation, it happened on the couch with Netflix. 🍿 We sat down to watch Wish Dragon, and what started as a family movie night turned into a powerful lesson on "Enoughness," friendship, and how we manage our internal energy.
Who knew Netflix would bring us closer when we said we wouldn’t do screens this March Break.
We had plans for board games, snowy walks, baking experiments that may or may not have turned into science projects. But somewhere between cabin fever and a collective slump, we had a weak moment…and turned on Netflix.
And, honestly? I’m so glad we did.
Because that “break the rules” night turned into one of the most meaningful family conversations we’ve had in a long time and all sparked by a pink dragon!
If you haven’t seen Wish Dragon, it’s a vibrant, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt story about friendship, longing, and what it really means to have “a better life.” Jackie Chan produced it so yes, there is a lot of crazy kung fu moves that will make you smile. But, what stayed with us wasn’t just the animation or the laughs, it was one simple line:
“I can’t give you a better life.”
That hit.
Hard.
Because if I’m being honest, I think a lot of us parents carry that quiet fear. That what we’re offering, you know - our verison of life just isn't quite as magical, abundant, or “Disney-level” as what our kids see out there. How many times did you hear this March break, "so and so is in Disney..."
I digress. But, I gotta tell you in that moment on the tv, sitting together on the couch, something shifted. We started talking.
Really talking.
About friendship and not the flashy kind, but the loyal, imperfect, show-up-for-you kind.
Oh yes, and puppies (yes, somehow puppies made their way in 🐶 and how one would make our lives sooooooooooooooo much better!), and how joy often comes from the simplest, messiest, most real parts of life.
And about that idea of a “better life.”
Because what Wish Dragon reminded us is this:
Maybe “better” isn’t more. Maybe it’s closer.
Closer to each other.
Closer to who we are.
Closer to what actually matters.
🌿 Reiki Lessons Hidden in a Kids’ Movie
Here’s where it got even deeper. As someone who weaves energy awareness and healing into parenting, I couldn’t help but notice the subtle Reiki-aligned themes in the story:
- Intention matters more than outcome
- Connection is more powerful than control
- Gratitude shifts everything
The kids and I talked about energy and how the way we show up for each other feels. How love isn’t something you earn through “better,” but something you experience through presence.
Even the kids got it.
Not in a technical way—but in a felt way.
And that’s the heart of Reiki too. Be still my heart.
Parent Support in Unexpected Places
Let’s just say it: parenting is heavy sometimes. We carry expectations. Parent carry comparisons and that constant low-level wondering if we’re doing enough.
So when a simple movie night turns into a moment of:
- shared laughter
- honest conversation
- emotional connection
…it feels like exhaling.
This was a reminder that support doesn’t always come from doing more. That actually it comes from:
- letting go of perfection
- allowing the “off-plan” moments
- trusting connection over control
🌎 A Little Travel Without Leaving the Couch
If have to add that the movie was a little travelogue for us too. Not just because Wish Dragon takes place in a beautifully animated version of modern Shanghai but because it transported us somewhere emotionally.
From:
- pressure → presence
- comparison → gratitude
- distance → closeness
And maybe that’s the kind of travel we need more of.

You just need moments like this.
✨ Final Thought
We didn’t stick to the no-screens rule But we did stick the landing where it matters most - connection. conversation and closeness. And a bowl of shared buttered popcorn - nothing better!
And if that’s not a March Break breakthrough…
I don’t know what is.
