Grieving & Estrangement with Reiki

Coping with estrangement and grieving can be deeply personal experiences.
Reiki offers some strategies that may help:

Coping with Estrangement:

  1. Acknowledge Your Feelings: Recognize and accept your emotions, whether it’s sadness, anger, or relief.
  2. Set Boundaries: Determine what level of contact, if any, you are comfortable with and stick to those boundaries. 
  3. Acceptance: Accept that the level of contact is not what you desire. The study of Reiki reminds us that we walk alongside our partners, our family members and we give respect for each and every path. 
  4. Seek Support: Book a Reiki sessions in-person or long distance to calm, support and heal. Talk with a therapist, support groups who understand and can offer perspective and intuitive counselling. 
  5. Intermediaries: Try not to ask other family members to intervene. Walk your own path and seek support (#4)
  6. Self-Care: Engage in activities that promote well-being and relaxation, such as Reiki Self-care, exercise, hobbies, or meditation.
  7. Reflect: Reflect on the relationship and consider the reasons for the estrangement. Reiki reminds us that we live by our truth which may differ from another.
  8. Time:  Healing from estrangement doesn’t happen overnight. Allow yourself time to process your feelings.

Grieving Process:

1. Denial: It's common to initially feel disbelief about the loss, which can buffer the immediate shock. Reiki breathing can support grounding you through this stage. 

2. Anger: As the masking effects of denial begin to wear off, the pain re-emerges and you may feel angry.  

3. Bargaining: You might dwell on what you could have done differently to prevent the loss or estrangement. The what if's will plague you. 

4. Depression: A period of sadness may occur where you confront the extent of the loss. With depression comes lethargy and you may feel very tired unable to get out of bed. 

5: Support: If grief feels overwhelming, consider seeking help from your Reiki Master, Intuitive Counsellor or Therapist.


Remember, these processes are not linear and can vary greatly from person to person. It’s important to be patient with yourself and allow the natural course of Reiki healing to take place. 🌱
