Guarding Your Energy During a Reiki Session

Guarding Your Energy: A Personal Journey in Reiki Practice

As a Reiki practitioner, I’ve often been asked if it’s possible to take on others’ “stickies” or unwanted gremlins during a session. The answer is yes, it can happen, but there are ways to ensure it doesn’t. Let me share my personal journey and some practical tips to protect your energy while practicing Reiki.

When I first started my Reiki practice, I was eager to help others heal and find balance. However, I quickly realized that I was feeling drained and overwhelmed after some sessions. It was as if I had absorbed the negative energy and emotions of my clients. This experience led me to explore ways to protect my energy and maintain my well-being.

One of the most effective techniques I discovered was grounding. Before each session, I would take a few moments to visualize roots growing from the soles of my feet, anchoring me deep into the earth. This grounding exercise helped me stay centered and connected to the earth’s stabilizing energy.

Another essential practice was setting clear intentions. I would begin each session by stating my intention to be a clear channel for Reiki energy, allowing it to flow through me without absorbing any negative energy. This simple yet powerful intention helped me create a protective barrier around myself.

I also incorporated the use of Reiki symbols, such as the power symbol (Cho Ku Rei), to shield my energy field. By drawing the symbol over myself and my client, I could create a protective bubble that prevented unwanted energy from entering my space.

One memorable experience involved a client who was going through a particularly challenging time. As I worked on her, I could feel the intensity of her emotions. To ensure I didn’t take on her energy, I visualized a bright, healing light surrounding both of us. This light acted as a filter, allowing only positive energy to flow through while keeping negative energy at bay.

After each session, I would perform a simple energy-clearing ritual. I would clap my hands or make a sweeping motion with my hands to cut off any energetic stickies that might have formed during the session. This practice helped me release any residual energy and keep me in my natural, balanced state.

One of my clients, Emily, shared her experience with my Reiki sessions:

“I was going through a tough time and felt like I was carrying a heavy burden. During the Reiki session, I could feel the energy flowing and the weight lifting off my shoulders. I opened my eyes to see Calah in tears and felt bad. But, she calmed me saying I was releasing and she was grateful to walk by my side. She was not absorbing negatives from me but relishing in my release. At the start of every session I am told I am safe and secure and I feel these words support my release during a session leaving me feeling lighter, more at peace."

By incorporating these practices into my Reiki sessions, I was able to protect my energy and provide a safe and effective healing experience for my clients. Remember, as a Reiki practitioner, it’s essential to take care of yourself so that you can continue to help others on their healing journey.
