Red-Carpet Ready: Why Your "Internal Glow" is Your Best Accessory This Season
With the Golden Globes and Grammys behind us and the Academy Awards just around the corner, we are surrounded by images of perfection. We see the gowns, the tuxedos, and even the perfect breasts to support a dress. (Love you Roan and sending reiki to your nipples. Piercings can bite!) It’s that unmistakable "Hollywood Glow." But here’s a secret from the Reiki table: The most stunning "glow" doesn't come from a bottle of luxury face serum (though we do love a good one—shoutout to Vintner’s Daughter for that botanical magic!).
True radiance is an energetic alignment. Whether you’re heading to a gala or just grabbing groceries Whole Foods, your chakras determine how you show up in the world.
The Wardrobe of the Soul: Dressing Your Chakras
Did you know you can "wear" your intentions?
- Yellow for Exams: I always tell students to wear yellow during finals. It stimulates the Solar Plexus, boosting confidence and clearing the "brain fog" of anxiety.
- Blue for Truth: When you have a difficult conversation, channel your inner Bruce Springsteen. There’s a reason he’s the king of the blue-jean-truth; blue opens the Throat Chakra, allowing for authentic expression. Don't choke on what you think people want to hear, speak from your soul! Whether you are a drama student or a CEO, blue helps you find your real voice.
When the Glow Fades: Stories from the Reiki Table
When our chakras are out of alignment, even the best designer outfit can’t hide the "stuck" feeling. Names have been changed to protect these sweet souls, but their journeys are universal.
1. Justin (47): The "I’m turning Fifty" Deadline and the Art of Smelling the Roses
Justin was struggling to manifest his dreams. He had set a rigid, high-stakes deadline: massive success by 50, or bust. But why the arbitrary time frame? On the Reiki table, we discovered Justin was a total "live wire” who was disconnected from his Root Chakra and sending frantic, static-filled signals to his guides.
He was so busy racing toward the finish line that he couldn't see the path. It wasn't until he cleared the busyness and finally took his Mom’s age-old advice to "stop and smell the roses" that his energy shifted. Once he slowed down to appreciate the scent of the present moment, he was able to journal his true desires, not just his "deadline" desires. Believe it or not, in his 50th year, the love and success he craved manifested effortlessly because he finally stopped rushing and started flowing.
2. Karin (39): The Burnout Trap
Karin was the definition of drowning in burnout. Her marriage was suffering, and she was so overwhelmed that she had actually talked herself into a separation not because it was the right move necessarily, but because she lacked "The Knowing" of what was actually happening beneath the surface.
Everyone thinks a beach vacation fixes burnout. Now, don't get me wrong. I’m not saying time on the sand is bad for relaxation (TripAdvisor, please don't tag me!). A getaway offers much-needed respite, but it doesn't reach down into the root of the real problem. It just doesn’t. So, please, pass the margarita while we unpack this trap: You have to do the work to rest and recharge with intention.
We know moms have an incredible amount on their plates, and sometimes the "stuck" feeling in the heart is actually a cry for help with the "mental load." Reiki helped Karin distinguish between "Anxiety" (that loud, frantic voice of panic) and "The Knowing" (the quiet, authentic truth). But the work didn't stop at the Reiki table.
"The Knowing" gave her the clarity to realize she needed practical support, too. She began working with a counselor to address the division of labour at home, ensuring that chores and mental energy were equally divided. Reiki cleared the emotional fog so she could advocate for herself effectively. The responsibilities of work-family-home life aren't going away, but you can’t save anyone if you don't put the oxygen mask on yourself first. By combining energy work with practical counseling, Karin set an intention for her best good and successfully released the burnout trap.
3. Fern (65): The "Old Age Pension" Shutdown
Fern hit 65 and took the "Senior Discount" to heart. She started feeling "old" and shut down. Her chakras took a massive hit. She was second-guessing herself, tripping over her own feet, and causing needless injuries. She even shut out her grandkids. Fern’s energy was stagnant. She needed to realize that age is a number, but vitality is a vibration.
The George Clooney & Amal Power Couple: Third Eye & Throat Chakras
When we look at a duo like George and Amal Clooney, we aren’t just seeing style; we are seeing a masterclass in the "Power Couple" of the upper chakras. George brings that Third Eye (Indigo) charisma. He’s a visionary who sees the big picture, while Amal embodies the Throat Chakra (Blue) at its peak: an international human rights lawyer whose voice is her instrument of truth.
When these two centers are connected, you possess both "The Knowing" and the courage to broadcast it. But when they are blocked or disconnected from one another, you suffer from Internal Hearing Impairment. You might have a vision but no voice to claim it, or a loud voice with no real insight behind it. To get that "Clooney-level" alignment, you have to bridge the gap.
The Third Eye (Indigo) and Throat (Blue) chakras are deeply connected. Your Third Eye is your "vision," and your Throat is your "broadcaster." If they aren't talking to each other, you suffer from Internal Hearing Impairment. You might see the truth, but you can't speak it. Or, you speak a lot, but none of it is your truth. And, there is a lot of parroting going on thanks to social media these days and it’s no one’s fault. The mass of information provided us on a daily basis via scrolls and reels overrides our system to the point we come deaf to our own voice. Remember it was Carleton’s alumni Marshall McLuhan who said the medium is the message! How often in a day do our peers say, so-and-so says without providing their take and commentary.
Exercises to Open the Connection:
- The Hum: Gently hum a low tone. Feel the vibration in your throat and let it rise up into your forehead. This "wakes up" the bridge between the two centers.
- The Dark Room: Physically place your palms over your eyes (palming) to give your brain the feeling of "going inside." Or, place a towel or eye pads over your eyes. Take the glasses off and relax your retinas! In this darkness, ask your "Knowing" what it wants you to say. What it wants you to hear. Be still.
- Self-Reiki: Place one hand on your throat and one on your forehead preferably with your eyes closed. Breathe for five minutes. Set your timer to do this at the same time if you can, daily. Or, make it a bedtime routine.
A Mantra for the Red Carpet of Life
While I love creating personalized mantras with my clients, here is a powerful general one to support your alignment:
"I am grounded in my truth, I am clear in my vision, and I am worthy of the success I manifest."
