What Indigenous Youth Teach Us About Healing, Connection & Energy
Walking Forward in a Good Way: What Indigenous Youth Teach Us About Healing, Connection & Energy
There’s a teaching woven through communities across the North: healing begins with listening. Listening to the land, listening to each other, and listening to the quiet wisdom that rises when we slow down long enough to hear it.
Recently, the Canadian Women’s Foundation revisited a powerful report called “Resetting Normal: The Impacts of COVID-19 on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Youth.” Co-authored by Taylor Arnt, a member of Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve, and Courtney Vaughan of the Métis Nation of Ontario, it holds truths that are just as relevant today.
What impacted me most is how strongly this Indigenous youth-led work echoes something I witness in Reiki sessions every week:
Young people know exactly what they’re carrying.
They need space, safety, and support to lead their own healing.
The report highlights what many Indigenous youth continue to navigate:
• digital access gaps
• mental-emotional strain
• housing and community challenges
• underfunded services
• the pressure to be resilient without enough support
And yet, threaded through all of it is something sacred: strength, community, culture, belonging, and connection to land.
These aren’t soft concepts — they are medicine.
Reiki as a Path of Quiet Restoration
Reiki isn’t a cure for systemic issues, and it shouldn’t attempt to be.
But Reiki can create a soft landing for overwhelmed nervous systems, anxious minds, and hearts that have been moving in survival mode for too long.
When I sit with clients both adults and youth, there is always a moment where the energy shifts… where grounding returns… where breath deepens again. Sigh.
It’s the same wisdom Indigenous youth show us in the report: healing is relational.
We regulate when we’re supported.
We grow when we’re witnessed.
Listening & Leading the Way Forward
Keetha Mercer of the Canadian Women’s Foundation shared something beautiful:
meaningful connection is as vital as funding.
Intentionally building care, trust, and learning across distance transforms the impact of this work.
This mirrors Reiki principles so closely:
Just for today, be gentle.
Just for today, listen deeply.
Just for today, honour your energy and the energy of others.
As we move into a new year, many people feel the pull to reset, realign, or rebuild parts of themselves they have ignored.
Reiki study is one of the softest paths into that transformation.
Whether you’re:
✨ craving grounding,
✨ wanting stronger intuition,
✨ ready to step into your own healing gifts,
✨ or simply needing a fresh start after a long year…
Reiki training can open that door.
