As I learned when studying Reiki at a cancer hospital and now offering Reiki at hospice, the modality has profound benefits to relieve pain, anxiety and fatigue. It’s a gentle, non-invasive method that can complement medical treatments, providing relief and comfort. A large-scale effectiveness trial of Reiki for physical and psychological health was undertaken by William L. Rand and affiliates in 2019. The objective of study was to measure the effect of a single session of Reiki on physical and psychological health in a large nonclinical sample. Statistically significant improvements were observed for all outcome measures, including positive affect, negative affect, pain, drowsiness, tiredness, nausea, appetite, shortness of breath, anxiety, depression, and overall well-being with the conclusion being that a single session of Reiki improves multiple variables related to physical and psychological health.
