Taylor Swift Music Supports Reiki Energy Healing
Music has a profound impact on both the body and mind, and its therapeutic effects are well-documents. Music with a strong beat can stimulate brainwaves to resonate in sync with the beat. Faster beats can lead to sharper concentration and more alert thinking, while slower tempos promote a calm, meditative state. Music an influence our breathing and heart rate, potentially activating a relaxation response and reducing pain and stress offering a distraction with the creation of positive emotions.
During our Reiki Level II session this past weekend with our teenage-aged students we talked about the importance of music for emotional expression and healing. They all agreed that music was key to their healing. Sarah, 15, says she practiced energy healing on her baby sister while playing Taylor Swift’s “Clean.” Of course, it was from 1989 Taylor’s version on Spotify!
The song “Clean” delves into the theme of leaving a relationship and finding your breath in letting go, getting clean! I had thought the “dirty” love lyric referred to a past boyfriend but what did I know! Wow! I often play Tae Tae’s “Breathe” that features Colbie Caillat. The lyrics express the struggle of living without someone you have loved and it is a good breakup song that witnesses your loss and the bittersweet process of letting go. The end of the school year we play a lot of “Breathe” as first loves often end when school does whether it be the Turkey Dump or See you in September scenarios.
I love Reiki classes with teens as they always provide a learning curve for me in pop culture. And, of course, I always turn them on to K-Pop! Before the students leave they add “Answer: Love Myself” by BTS to their Fav playlist. The BTS song like their Weverse messaging encourages us to embrace our own worth and accept our flaws #loveyourself
Several of the students said they have never felt so loved as at the ERAs concert tour. I felt the love at her RED tour in Toronto a few years back where I was happy to meet up with her Mom Andrea before the show as she travelled down the aisles connecting with fans.
